On Wednesday morning, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó took to Facebook to react to US President Donald Trump's tariffs affecting the whole world. Not surprisingly, in his very first sentence, the Minister underlined that
"the European economy and ultimately the people of Europe are once again taking the brunt of the incompetence of the politicians in Brussels."
According to Szijjártó, after the American President's tariff announcements yesterday, the situation is clear: the European Commission should have negotiated, and they had two and a half months to do so.
"They should have negotiated with the US administration on customs cooperation and should have lowered the automotive tariffs from the European level to the current US level, i.e. from 10 to 2.5 percent. But the European Commission has failed in this too. They did not negotiate, but instead turned an economic issue into an ideological one. All this for a monthly salary of thousands of euros," he stressed.
