Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán held talks with Walter Rosenkranz, President of the Austrian National Council, in Budapest on Tuesday, the Prime Minister's Communications Department informed MTI. According to the concise press release, during the meeting, the parties discussed bilateral issues as well as the impact Ukraine's potential accession to the EU would have on Austria and Hungary, including the risks to security, the economy and agriculture. The communiqué did not mention whether the two politicians had discussed the shared challenge presented by the recent outbreak of the foot-and-mouth disease epidemic in Hungary, which has triggered a preparedness at military level on the Austrian side.
Walter Rosenkranz was appointed to his post in parliament as a representative of the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), which won the country's parliamentary elections last September. His election has been strongly criticised by Jewish organisations in Austria, who see him as a representative of the "revisionist camp paying homage to Nazi criminals". The President's first official guest after his appointment was Viktor Orbán.
