Future Hungarian-American energy deal in the works, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs says
In the future, cooperation between Hungary and the United States will focus on economic and business issues, building on our good political relations, Levente Magyar, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade told MTI in Washington on Thursday after meeting with US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.
Levente Magyar added that Thursday's talks were focused on how to translate good political relations into economic benefits. "We agreed that instead of ideological and political cooperation, we will focus on the economy and business in the coming years," he said, emphasising that the cooperation built on this new foundation could yield tangible results in the energy sector in the short term.
The topics discussed by the Hungarian and US deputy foreign ministers also included preparations for the highest-level political meeting between the two countries. "We are working on making sure that in the near future, the US president and the Hungarian prime minister will be able to personally review the rich bilateral agenda that will define our relationship in the coming years," Levente Magyar said.
Incidentally, Donald Trump Jr. will be visiting Budapest on Friday to attend a closed-door event with Gellért Jászai, president of 4iG. Jászai traveled to the United States with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in February to meet with Elon Musk, where they discussed Hungarian developments related to the space industry and opportunities for global technological cooperation. After their meeting in Mar-a-Lago, 4iG's share price skyrocketed. Richard Grenell, who served as special representative for the Balkans during Donald Trump's first term, is currently working as an advisor at 4iG. More about how 4iG became Orbán's favourite company can be found in the investigative piece of Direkt36.
