Charges filed against Irishman who killed American woman in Budapest's party district last year

The Budapest Chief Prosecutor's Office has filed charges against a 38-year-old Irish man who is accused of murdering his American female acquaintance in Budapest, the prosecutor's office announced on Monday. According to the indictment, the man arrived in Budapest on October 28, 2024, and the woman arrived three days later. The two met on the evening of November 4 at an entertainment venue in District VII. The next day at dawn, the woman went up to the Irish man's rented flat, where he tied her up, assaulted her, and then strangled her.

Within a few days, police apprehended the 37-year-old Irish man and took him into custody on suspicion of murder. During the questioning, the man admitted to killing the woman but claimed that it was an accident that happened during intercourse. He also showed the police where he had buried the body, hidden in a suitcase, in a forest near Szigliget.

The man has been in custody since his arrest and is charged with murder. The prosecutor's office has requested that the court sentence him to a prison term and rule that he is not eligible for parole. They are also requesting his deportation.
