Hungary is the only EU state that didn't sign condolence statement on anniversary of Serbian tragedy
The EU Delegation to Serbia published a statement on its website over the weekend, in which it once again expressed its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who died when the canopy of the newly renovated train station in Novi Sad, Serbia collapsed a year ago.
"Respect for fundamental rights and values, including the freedom of peaceful assembly and freedom of the press, are fundamental values of the EU that must be protected and upheld by all. We call on everyone to show restraint, defuse tensions and avoid violence," they wrote.
The statement was signed by the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, the Netherlands, Croatia, Ireland, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Slovakia, Slovenia.
In other words, all EU member states except for Hungary.
We contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade to ask whether this information was accurate and, if it is, why Hungary didn't sign the statement.
