51 percent of Budapest residents would vote for the Tisza Party, 24 percent for Fidesz, survey shows
If elections were held this Sunday, most of the voters in the Hungarian capital would vote for the Tisza Party: 51 percent of the overall Budapest sample would choose the party led by Péter Magyar, while 24 percent of the city's residents would vote for Fidesz, according to a survey conducted by the 21 Research Center for Népszava.
According to the poll conducted in Budapest, among those who are certain to vote and know which party they will choose, 58 percent would vote for the Tisza Party, 26 percent for Fidesz, 5 percent for the MKKP, 4 percent for DK and Mi Hazánk, and 1 percent for Momentum.
They also measured who the most popular politician in the capital is. They found that mayor Gergely Karácsony is well liked by 50 percent of respondents, while Péter Magyar is liked by 45 percent. Dávid Vitézy is considered particularly likable by 39 percent, while Alexandra Szentkirályi (Fidesz) is liked by 22 percent of those surveyed. If mayoral elections were held this Sunday, 50 percent of those eligible to vote in Budapest would vote for Gergely Karácsony, 27 percent for Dávid Vitézy, and 23 percent for Alexandra Szentkirályi.
Comparing the data with similar figures from last year's EP elections, Dániel Róna concluded that the Tisza Party had become much stronger in Budapest, while Fidesz had weakened (both parties received 33 percent of the vote last year).
The 21 Research Center collected the data by telephone between October 18 and 27, surveying 1,000 people, with the sample being representative of the entire population in terms of place of residence (district), gender, age, and educational background. The values obtained in the sample differ by 3 percentage points plus/minus from what would have been obtained if the entire population had been surveyed, but when examining subpopulations, the margin of error may be slightly higher, they wrote.
