Dutch public media hotline awaits Hungarians' opinions on Orbán regime

Dutch public media is devoting special attention to the upcoming Hungarian parliamentary elections scheduled for 12 April. This is made evident by the fact that a Dutch documentary filmmaker has set up a hotline to elicit Hungarians' opinions on the Orbán regime.

Nicolaas Veul will travel to Hungary in January to make a new documentary for the Dutch public broadcaster VPRO. According to a statement from the Dutch public media, Veul will tour the country before the parliamentary elections to find out what Hungarians think about Viktor Orbán's regime.

In order to gather as many opinions as possible, Veul has launched a Dutch-Hungarian Hotline: a telephone line where Hungarians can share their experience on living in Hungary during this time completely anonymously and freely. According to the announcement, the hotline is open to everyone, regardless of whether they support the government's policies, or are perhaps concerned about the country's future, or generally prefer to remain silent. These stories will be used to select material for a documentary, which will be screened in the Netherlands. The hotline may be reached here.

The announcement notes that Viktor Orbán's Hungary is often cited in the Netherlands as a political role model for European far-right parties. Orbán's ally, Geert Wilders, however, found himself in opposition after the center-left won the last elections in the Netherlands.
